Contest Mechanics

REGISTRATION EXTENDED

MECHANICS

Objectives

  1. To build camaraderie among students and community teachers from different schools by engaging them in a friendly competition.
  2. To promote excellence and interest in Information Technology of the College of Computer Studies.
  3. To enhance the skills of students in Information Technology.
  4. To identify and recognize students’ achievement in Information Technology as well as perceive new technologies used in IT education.
  5. To demonstrate knowledge and skills in using multimedia applications and develop confidence in interpretation of original creations.

General Guidelines

  1. Each school must register online and fill out the Online Registration form. In the case that this fails, you may download the Manual Registration Form through the Printable Forms section and send the accomplished form via fax to TechnoKids Philippines (525-5626) on or before December 20, 2011.
  2. Only confirmed attendees in the roster and with official event IDs will be allowed to enter the DLSU campus.
  3. Registration starts at 6:45 AM; contestants who come later than 7:45 AM will be disqualified.
  4. On the day of the contest itself, each participant must come in proper school uniform and must wear their school ID.

Contest Category: Quiz Bee

  1. The questions will be in the form of programming, problem solving, identification, and multiple choice using critical analysis.

Contest Mechanics: Quiz Bee

  1. Only registered participating schools will be accepted to join the contest.
  2. Each participating school is required to send 2 GS students (strictly one 5th grader and one 6th grader) and 2 HS students (strictly one 3rd year and one 4th year) with their coach or computer teacher/s.
  3. Answer sheets and pens will be provided for each team by the event organizer.
  4. No electronic device will be allowed during all rounds of the contest.
  5. No printed copy or any form of reviewer is allowed during all rounds of the contest.
  6. The competition has two (2) rounds: elimination round (for all participating teams) and final round (for top 10 teams).

    Elimination Round: random questions consist of easy, average, and difficult questions.

  7. LEVEL TIME TO ANSWER POINTS
    Easy 10 seconds 10 points each
    Average 15 seconds 20 points each
    Difficult 20-60 seconds 30 points each

  8. The quiz master will read each question only once while the question is being flashed on the projector screen. It is advised that the contestants listen to the reading of the question before answering. The slide of question will contain information about the difficulty level (easy, average, and difficult) and the time allotted for answering. The participating teams shall answer the questions under the specified time allotment. The sound of the buzzer will be heard to indicate that the time is up for that question. If the team is still writing their answer after the buzzer goes off, their answer will be disqualified.
  9. Final answers should be clearly written on the answer sheet provided. Multiple answers will not be accepted.
  10. The Quiz Master and LSCS assigned checkers will check the answer of each team.
  11. All answers shall be assessed by a panel of judges assigned by LSCS and assisted by an assigned committee of LSCS. Any objections about a question must be raised before the next question is read; otherwise, the inquiry will not be entertained. The Panel of Judges will be responsible in deciding whether the objections will be considered or not. The decision of the Panel of Judges is final.
  12. Scores are projected and updated by the scoring committee all the time. The scores of each question shall depend on their nature and level of difficulty (10 for easy, 20 for average and 30 for difficult). The top 10 teams to earn the highest points will move on to the Final round. The top 3 teams with the highest scores will be declared winners.
  13. In case of a tie for the last spot/s of teams to advance to the next round, additional tie-breaking questions will be asked. Same mechanics will be used for the tie-breaking round, except answer sheet is to be raised as soon as the team has finished writing their answer and before the time allotted for that question has expired.
  14. Answers can be written in acronyms unless specified otherwise.

Contest Category: Multimedia Competition

    The contestant who best translates the given abstract concept into a poster design will win the contest.

Multimedia Competition Guidelines: Elimination Round

  1. Only students from HS3 to HS4 may join.
  2. Each school may have two (2) participants who will work as a pair.
  3. The elimination round will be held at the participant’s school from January 9-14, 2012 (Monday-Saturday) from 8:30AM-11:00AM (Monday-Saturday) or from 1:30PM-4:00PM (Monday-Friday). During these dates, a proctor from TechnoKids Philippines will go to the registered schools to conduct the Elimination Round.
  4. Make sure to choose only one (1) date from January 9-14 during the Online Registration.
  5. On the chosen date, participants will choose which among 5 abstract concepts they will create using Adobe Photoshop CS5.
  6. Specific contest details and mechanics for the elimination round will be given before the contest proper.
  7. All computers and digital equipment will be provided by TechnoKids Philippines; participants are not allowed to use the school’s computer or any personal electronic gadget.
  8. Administrators, teachers, and other students are advised not to disrupt or watch the participants while the elimination round is on-going.
  9. A panel of judges will collectively evaluate all the works at the same time after January 14, 2012.
  10. The top 5 works will go on to compete for the final round.
  11. Announcement of winners will be posted on January 18, 2012 on the IT Cup website.

Contest Mechanics: Multimedia Competition Final Round

  1. The final round for the multimedia competition will run simultaneously with the Quiz Bee on January 28, 2012.
  2. An abstract concept will be revealed on and at the beginning of the day of the competition.
  3. The contestant will create their original concept for the poster in Adobe Photoshop CS5 within two hours .
  4. Posters should be in letter size (8.5 x 11 inches) in JPEG and PSD file formats.
  5. No signatures or names of the contestant and school must be found in the final poster.
  6. After the time limit, each student will submit their source file names to the facilitator along with their name and the school’s name.
  7. Students cannot use a pen tablet to even out the contest.
  8. Students are not allowed to use the internet or stock photos.
  9. Computers and digital equipment will be provided in the competition; hence participants are not allowed to use any personal electronic gadgets.
  10. Contestants who failed to follow the instructions and guidelines are automatically disqualified.
  11. A panel of 3 judges will confer based on the following criteria:
